Could Leicester City’s latest signing actually be good news for Celtic fans?
The English Premier League side yesterday confirmed the permanent signing of Youri Tielemans from Monaco.
He spent the second half of last season on loan with Leicester, appearing 13 times under Claude Puel and then Brendan Rodgers.
Tielemans did enough to show he could be a quality player for the Foxes long term so the club yesterday moved to sign him permanently ahead of the new season:
And while that’s definitely a positive for Leicester, it could be good news for Celtic too.
It was reported by The Daily Record earlier this summer that former Celtic boss Rodgers was keen on signing Callum McGregor.
Per that article, the Hoops issued a hands off warning to Leicester.
But could the arrival of Tielemans be more significant in any Leicester pursuit of McGregor?Embed from Getty Images
The Belgian midfielder is very similar to the Scot in his style of play and is just another option McGregor would have to contend with if he were to make the move to Leicester.
Rodgers is obviously a big fan, handing McGregor a consistent opportunity in the Celtic team during his time as manager of the Scottish champions so the interest makes sense.
Celtic fans – do you worry about losing McGregor?
