The former Blues midfielder has been assisting his good friend Lampard for the last year at Pride Park.
They almost led Derby up to the English Premier League, but just fell short after a 2-1 playoff final defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.
Like Lampard, Morris has a close affiliation to Chelsea due to his breakthrough as a youth there and then his time spent as a youth coach at Stamford Bridge too.
So you can understand why Morris has decided to head back to Chelsea with his old pal.
It may be disappointing for Derby fans, but they should take some consolation in Morris’ classy goodbye message:
Morris was youth coach at Chelsea for four seasons before leaving to become Lampard’s assistant at Derby so he should be an important figure in the new Stamford Bridge management team.
Chelsea aren’t able to sign any players this summer so will likely lean on their famed youth academy – and few know it better than Morris.
