Neil Lennon ‘Really Pleased’ with Sarajevo Win and Gives Update on Injured Players

Celtic managed to see off FK Sarajevo in their opening Champions League qualifier this evening, with manager Neil Lennon ‘really pleased’ with his team’s efforts.

It looked like it was going to be a pretty sticky evening for the Hoops in Bosnia after they went behind early in the first-half, but goals from Mikey Johnston, Scott Sinclair and Odsonne Edouard sealed a 3-1 victory.

The only downside to the Premiership side’s win was injuries sustained by James Forrest, Johnston and new signing Boli Bolingoli, with all three forced off in the second 45 minutes.

After the rain-sodden match, Lennon talked with the media, and said via BBC Radio Scotland: “Overall, I’m really pleased. We had to fit a few square pegs in round holes because of where we are with the squad.

“I thought Ajer at right-back was unbelievable. Obviously that’s not a long-term thing.

“Just the attitude and fitness of the players and the quality of the goals at the end.

“Mikey felt a twinge in his quad so hopefully it’s not too serious. Boli rolled his ankle in the first half and it got progressively worse.

“James was fatigue more than anything else so I didn’t want to take any chances with him.

“I don’t think we’re too stretched on that side of things hopefully.”

Celtic will now host the Bosnians in the rematch next week, but the Scots now look heavy favourites to progress to the next qualifying round.
