Celtic boss Neil Lennon has insisted he has never heard of Ecuadorian midfielder Sergio Quintero – despite the Under-20 international claiming he was a target of the Hoops.
Lennon said he was ‘really pleased’ with his side’s efforts in Tuesday evening’s 3-1 win over FK Sarajevo in Bosnia but when he was asked about Quintero by the media after the match, the Northern Irishman seemed a little bewildered.
As we told you earlier today, Quintero – who is said to be nicknamed ‘The Machine’ in his homeland – claimed he was in negotiations with the Premiership side but speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, via the Daily Record, Lennon bluntly said: “Never heard of him.”
The reporter persisted: “The Ecuadorian?”
This time Lennon didn’t answer at all.
So, it seems somebody somewhere along the line isn’t telling the truth, but what do you think?
And is there any chance Quintero – who played every game in Ecuador’s Under-20 World Cup campaign last month – could still turn out to be a decent target for Celtic?
