Rangers Blog Clears Up Confusion on Ross McCrorie’s ‘Option to Buy’ Portsmouth Loan

A respected Rangers blog has cleared up the confusion on Ross McCrorie’s loan to Portsmouth and the English club having an ‘option to buy’.

It was yesterday confirmed that the Ibrox midfielder would be spending the coming season out on loan with the English League One side.

But it was also widely speculated that the deal included an option for Pompey to make McCrorie their player on a permanent basis too.

That would have worried many Rangers fans given the midfielder’s impact on the first team last season and the high regard he’s held in by manager Steven Gerrard.

McCrorie made 30 appearances for Rangers in all competitions last season and had some standout moments, including his performance against Celtic in his side’s win at Ibrox last December.

So surely Rangers wouldn’t give Portsmouth the option to buy him during the loan? According to Four Lads Had a Dream, they haven’t:

Gerrard obviously feels McCrorie needs to play football regularly and he should get the opportunity to do that at Portsmouth, who will be challenging for promotion to the Championship in the coming campaign.
