Chris Sutton Reckons Celtic’s £25M Tierney Windfall is ‘Gone’ After Cluj Catastrophe

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton reckons the Hoops’ £25 million transfer fee from selling Kieran Tierney is now ‘gone’ after their disastrous Champions League exit against CFR Cluj.

Neil Lennon’s men looked in decent shape to progress against the Romanian champions after last week’s 1-1 draw away from home, but a shambolic defensive display at Celtic Park saw the Scots eventually lose 4-3 on the night, 5-4 on aggregate.

The Celtic hierarchy sanctioned Tierney’s multi-million pound exit to Arsenal last week, making the left-back the most expensive Scottish player of all-time.

However, taking to Twitter in the aftermath of the shock result, Sutton opined that most of the windfall will be banked by the frugal Bhoys board after the Cluj catastrophe:

Of course, by not qualifying for the playoff round – never mind the group stages – of the Champions League, Celtic will indeed miss out on a much-needed cash-injection – but is Sutton right?

Will most of the Tierney fee be gobbled up as a result of Cluj’s famous victory in Glasgow?
