Last Saturday the 17th of August in Glasgow the British bantamweight title fight between Ukashir Farooq and Duane Winters ended with Farooq stopping Winters in the very first round. Live on the BBC, they got it right, by bringing a commentator from England to provide commentary who had experience of the sport. That brutal first round knockout win for Ukashir Farooq makes him the very first Pakistani born boxer to win a Lonsdale belt outright. We are now talking a British and Commonwealth title fight between the two Scots at the weight who have the belts; Farooq and Lee MacGregor. I would prefer to see this fight for a bigger set of belts but there is a massive appetite for the fight in the boxing world, apart from that spanner in the spokes we should get it…
The undercard saw light heavyweight Boris Crighton take a points win against Darryl Sharp, and welterweight Declan Geraghty made an appearance for a 4 round win against Naheem Chaudry whilst featherweight Craig Morgan got his 6th professional win on points against Rafael Castillo.
In Los Angeles the WBO super bantamweight title was on the line between Emanuel Navarrete and Francisco De Vaca. Navarrete was a class and a level above his opponents, winning by stoppage in the second round.
