Meet teenager Hannibal Mejbri – the under-17 player than Manchester United have just forked out a whopping €10million in order to secure his signature.
The 16-year-old scheming midfielder has been earmarked for stardom amongst his peers for the last several seasons in the fabled youth ranks at AS Monaco, where the likes of Thierry Henry, David Trezeguet and Kylian Mbappé learned their trade.
Monaco confirmed they’d lost one of their most promising assets via their official Twitter account yesterday, with The Independent reporting that United have agreed to pay £9.3 million to bring Mejbri to Old Trafford.
Regarded as a brilliant passer, Mejbri has also impressed during youth international appearances for France with his excellent set-pieces, and United supporters will be delighted to hear he also turned down a lucrative move to Anfield.
Mejbri’s father – who acts as his agent and advisor – he told French publication Le Parisien that they have already rejected a huge offer to move to Liverpool, whilst Manchester City and Arsenal have both failed in bids for the young midfielder.
He added that the Gunners even took him on trial, but they ultimately decided against pursuing a move – could they live to regret that?
Moreover, according to Football365, Mejbri has named compatriots Eric Cantona and Paul Pogba as players he wants to emulate during his time in England, whilst also referencing Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham as strong influences.
We’re sure if he turns out to be half as good as any of them, then the Red Devils will have a serious player on their hands.
What do you think of Mejbri’s decision to spurn other offers and join Manchester United?
