Liverpool Football Club are attempting to officially trademark the word ‘Liverpool’ and there’s a lot of pretty indignant people across the country.
The newly-crowned Champions of Europe are still on Cloud Nine after winning their sixth Champions League crown against Tottenham in Madrid and now it seems the club’s hierarchy are looking to capitalise on their popularity.
According to the BBC, the official request has been made in an attempt to protect fans from fake goods but smaller independent teams, including the City of Liverpool FC, will be rightly concerned about how it will affect them.
As you can probably imagine, the city that spawned The Beatles being trademarked solely by its leading football club really hasn’t gone down well with punters on social media:
What do you think of the situation?
Are the Liverpool owners right, or is this simply just a ludicrous idea?
