Video: Emilio Izaguirre Injured During Riots Between Rival Fans in Honduras

Former Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre has been injured after being caught-up in a series of clashes between rival supporters in Honduras.

The ex-Hoops left-back only agreed to a return to play in his homeland last week with Motagua, but now looks set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a nasty eye injury.

In what was set to be only his second game for his new club in the Tegucigalpa Derby between the capital sides of Motagua and Olimpia, shocking scenes kicked-off as supporters attacked his team bus, leaving the man affectionally known as ‘Izzy’ with small splinters of glass in his right eye.

The 33-year-old took to Instagram after receiving treatment from doctors, and confirmed he’ll be ok, writing on his story: “Thank God I am fine. There were bits of glass that flew into an eye, but I’ve been told it is nothing serious and there is no lasting damage.

“The painful thing for me is the deceased. We are all Hondurans, no matter what team you support, we all must have respect for our fellow human beings.

“Thanks to everyone for all the kind messages I have received.”

Puts the Old Firm rivalry into perspective, eh?

What do you think of Izaguirre’s injury and the shocking scenes in Honduras?
