Neuer has been Germany’s first-choice shot-stopper for almost a decade now and played a vital role in 2014’s World Cup triumph in Brazil, but it seems his time between the sticks for Die Mannschaft could be coming to a somewhat abrupt end.
The form has Marc-André ter Stegen at Barcelona has led to speculation that he could become Germany’s new long-term goalie – a prospect that really hasn’t gone down well with Hoeness.
According to reports in Germany, via Kicker, ter Stegen is set to replace Neuer during the friendly against Argentina and Euro 2020 qualifier against Estonia next month.
Sport Bild report that upon hearing the new Hoeness was rather upset, responding: “We would never accept that.
“Before that happens, we will no longer provide players for the national team.”
We appreciate that Neuer is a world class goalkeeper, and has done plenty for the German national team, but does that make him undroppable?
And surely Bayern’s German players have a say in whether or not they go and play for their country, eh?
What do you think of the situation?
