The 33-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Zenit St. Petersburg after just one season, following the expiration of his contract with the Russian side.
As it stands, Marchisio is still without a new club but it seems he could’ve been turning out in Rangers’ iconic light blue kit, had Steven Gerrard got his way and snapped up the veteran.
La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira has taken to Twitter to confirm the Gers approach, and didn’t go into detail as to why Marchisio wasn’t more taken by the offer:
He might be into the twilight of his career but Marchisio is a genuine hero to the Juventus fans after he spent 13 years with the Turin giants, before departing in 2018.
Marchisio wrote himself into Juve folklore by playing a crucial part in winning a whopping seven Serie A titles, and he was also vital in Italy’s run to the Euro 2012 final.
Do you think he would’ve made a decent signing for Rangers, despite his advancing years?
