The Spanish shot-stopper has been between the sticks for the Reds ever since first-choice goalie Alisson Becker suffered a calf injury in the club’s Premier League opener against Norwich City in August, having only signed for the Anfield side a few days previous.
Many fans could’ve been forgiven for thinking Alisson’s absence would hamper Klopp and co’s efforts to retain the Champions League title won against Spurs in Madrid on June 1, but the ex-West Ham man looked right at home during this evenings opening group stage tie in Napoli.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side looked like they were going to take the lead through Belgian winger Dries Mertens, only for Adrian to somehow claw the ball over his crossbar:
He might’ve been making his Champions League debut at the age of 32 tonight, but Adrian has already proved he’s a more than capable stand-in for Alisson.
How far do you think Liverpool will go in this season’s competition?
