Why This Weekend’s Madrid Derby Has a Draw Written All Over It

Why This Weekend’s Madrid Derby Has a Draw Written All Over It

Two of Spain’s biggest clubs square-ff this weekend in one of La Liga‘s most mouthwatering derbies, but we reckon it’ll almost certainly end up honours even when Real and Atletico Madrid meet on Saturday evening.

Diego Simeone’s typically fearsome Atleti welcome their hostile neighbours to their stunning new Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, and are favourites to win all three points against Zinedine Zidane’s stuttering Los Blancos.

The odds compilers at 888 online football betting have priced up Atletico as 7/5 favourites, with the visitors 2/1 to claim what would be classed as something of an upset.

But, at 11/5, we reckon the draw is the smart place to put your money.

Zidane and his under-performing gaggle of superstars have dropped points twice in their opening six games, against Real Valladolid and Villarreal, and were given an almighty humbling in the Champions League at the hands of PSG.

Atelti, meanwhile, haven’t been exactly hitting their usual sublime standards either, after losing their 100% record on a night to forget at Real Sociedad and have failed to win their last two home matches.

Five of the last eight Madrid Derbies have ended up in draws, and Atelti have won just one of their last eight meetings with their bitter rivals – and if anybody knows how to eek out a much-needed draw on the big occasion, it’s Diego Simeone.

Back in July, the two sides contested a crazy pre-season friendly at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey that Atleti won by a remarkable 7-3 scoreline, but we don’t reckon there’ll be any such repeat on Saturday night.

Get your hard-earned cash on a draw at 11/5.
