The Norwegian duo have cemented their status as mainstays in Neil Lennon’s new-look Hoops side this season, with Ajer one of the first-choice central defenders alongside Christopher Jullien.
Elyounoussi moved to Glasgow on-loan from Southampton during the summer transfer window, and was already familiar with his Ajer from the Norwegian national squad, but playing alongside the 21-year-old has reinforced his high opinion of the stalwart.
Speaking to Norwegian media this week, via the Sun, Elyounoussi said: “We’ll see how long we keep Kristoffer. He has been at Celtic for a couple of years and has done very well.
“I expect to see him in a bigger club and a bigger league.
“From what I’ve seen of him in the past and now on a daily basis in training and in combat, he is more than good enough for the Premier League.
“You shouldn’t be surprised if he goes there one day, and even beats my transfer record.”
Of course, Ajer and Elyounoussi were left disappointed at the weekend, following Celtic’s 2-0 defeat at Livingston, but do you think they’ll still go on to lift the Premiership title?
And is the perhaps more experience Elyounoussi right to be speaking so highly of his young team-mate?
