FAST FORWARD

Tonight, Saturday the 12th of October in Chicago after much goings on and things being off, we finally get the heavyweight debut of Aleksandr Usyk who was due to face former MMA star Tyrone Spong, but due to an adverse finding from a drugs test he is now in against a Witherspoon. Related to Tim, Chazz Witherspoon is not expected to do much more than be the platform for Usyk to make some noise. With none other than George Groves suggesting that Usyk might actually be the best heavyweight on the scene at the moment and not being laughed off the Pound for Pound podcast, we all await the performance, rather than the result. After all it’s not like the other heavyweights are wrestling with much – are they?

Also, on the bill is the trickier to predict light heavyweight WBA title fight between Dmitry Bivol and Lenin Castillo. Bivol is the much more fancied of the two and it is likely to be a decent fight with Bivol winning. We also have the female WBC/WBA super lightweight unification battle between Jessica McCaskill and Erica Anabella Farias and we have McCaskill definitely in the favourite’s enclosure.

Meanwhile in Leeds whilst Matchroom are in the USA, Queensberry are providing the homegrown platform with featherweight Reece Mould facing Bayardo Ramos, middleweight Mark Heffron in against Rui Manuel Pavanito and the WBO intercontinental title fight between Troy Williamson against Navid Mansouri. Mould and Heffron should come through with notable wins whilst the Williamson/Mansouri fight seems a tough one to predict.

We also have the Commonwealth light middleweight title contest between Lyndon Arthur and Emanuel Anim and I think Arthur should be fine whilst the Commonwealth cruiserweight title will be decided between Englishman Zelfa Barrett and plucky Scot Jordan McCrory. Barrett, the defending champion, does not do too well with Scottish fighters and McCrory will be hoping to bring some of Ronnie Clark’s lightening.

The headline IBF featherweight title scrap between Josh Warrington and Sofiane Takoucht is not totally straight forward. Warrington does not want the fight, but he has to have it. Takoucht will come to win but is expected to lose. It’s got all the hallmarks of a dozen world title fights in 2019 involving British fighters that have gone horribly wrong…

Elsewhere in Southsea there are 5 fights, York Hall hosts 16 fights, Belfast has 13 fights including the vacant BUI Celtic title fight at lightweight between Joe Fitzpatrick and Iago Barros, in Nottingham there are7 fights, Stoke-on Trent 7 fights and in Coventry 6 fights. Fitzpatrick in amongst that lot is likely to win the Celtic belt.

This coming Friday, the 18th of October in Wolverhampton wealso have 12 fights that includes the WBO European title fight at bantamweight involving Kyle Williams whilst in Philadelphia, the light heavyweight unification scrap between Oleksandr Gvozdyk and Artur Berbetiev for the WBC and IBF titles is likely, I think to go to Berbetiev.
