Gary McAllister has refused to say whether or not James Tavernier will be taken off penalties.
The Rangers assistant manager faced the media this morning ahead of his side’s trip to Dingwall to play the Staggies tomorrow night.
Tavernier has came in for criticism over recent games, with the weekend’s 2-1 win over Motherwell featuring his missed penalty.Embed from Getty Images
That was the third time Tavernier has missed from the penalty spot this season – and it’s led to calls from some to remove him from duties.
But McAllister has stopped short of confirming he’ll be off them after being quizzed by the media this morning:
He then went on to defend Tavernier from the recent criticism.
The Rangers captain’s mistakes in games against Young Boys and Hearts led to dropped points for Gerrard’s men.
But McAllister is firmly behind his skipper:
Rangers will be hoping they can beat Ross County tomorrow night and at least keep pace with Celtic at the top of the Premiership.
The Hoops play St Mirren at Celtic Park at the same time so there could be some movement at the top if either team drops points.
