The Barcelona legend leads the Dutch into battle tomorrow night against Davis and his Northern Ireland team-mates in Rotterdam, in what will be a crucial showdown for Euro 2020 qualification.
Davis might be 34 now, but he’s proved himself essential to Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side after returning from Southampton last January, and is now his country’s record holder for the most outfield appearances after reaching the whopping number of 113 caps in September.
Having worked at close quarters with Davis at St. Mary’s, Koeman knows just how essential he is to club and country, and insists other players can learn from his level of professionalism.
The Dutch boss said in pre-match press conference via Sky Sports: “You like to have all the players like him because he is a great professional.
“Quality player, he’s good on the ball and he’s the captain. Plus, he is always working.
“That’s what you like to have everybody [like him] in your team.”
What do you think of his comments on Davis?
And with the Netherlands having failed to qualify for a major tournament since the 2014 World Cup, is Koeman the man to take them back to the summit of international football?
