Mikel Arteta Bookies’ Joint-Favourite to Replace Unai Emery as Arsenal Boss

Former Rangers midfielder Mikel Arteta has been installed as the joint-favourite to takeover as Arsenal manager, as the pressure on current Gunners boss Unai Emery continues to mount.

Arsenal put in an underwhelming and meek display in the 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United last night, and missed the chance to go third in the Premiership table, with various regulars on ArsenalFanTV calling for the Spanish coach to be fired.

And now speculation surrounding Emery’s position appears to be building, with bookmakers Ladbrokes pricing-up the runners and riders of who could be in the frame to replace the ex-PSG and Sevilla coach.

Interestingly, Arteta is currently at 5/1, the same odds as Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, with Patrick Vieira at 6/1 and former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at 7/1.

Current Arsenal coach Freddie Lungberg is priced at 8/1, whilst Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is currently a rank outsider at 33/1.

Of course, Arteta has never been a senior manager in his own right, and has only ever been a first-team coach at Manchester City, so would he have the experience and know-how required to take on a job as a big as the Arsenal gig?
