Rangers boss Steven Gerrard says he’ll consider removing James Tavernier from penalty duties after his missed spot-kick against Motherwell this afternoon.
The Gers skipper has been the allocated penalty-kick taker ever since Steven Gerrard arrived at Ibrox in the summer of 2018, but following his miss in the 2-1 victory over Stephen Robinson’s side, Gerrard admits he now needs to look at his other options.
Tavernier was once considered faultless from 18-yards but his latest failure is his third of the campaign, and could’ve cost his side valuable points in the race to stop Celtic claiming their ninth consecutive Premiership title.
After the full-time whistle, speaking via the Sun, Gerrard explained: “
Of course, with the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe in his ranks, it must be tempting to switch takers, but do you think Tavernier has enough goodwill banked to buy himself more time?
Or should he be removed from taking penalties, effective immediately?
