Jermain Defoe has insisted he wants to stay at Rangers beyond the end of the current season – declaring the Ibrox side a ‘special club’.
The former England international has been in sensational form so far this season, banging in a whopping nine Premiership goals in just seven appearances so far, including a hat-trick in Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing of Hamilton Accies.
Defoe – who turned 37 earlier this week – joined Steven Gerrard in Glasgow on an 18-month loan deal from Premier League club Bournemouth last January, but the end of his loan also coincides with the end of his contract with the Cherries, which is due to expire in June 2020.
So, next summer, Defoe will be a free agent, and any suggestion that he could perhaps head back down south has been quashed by the man himself this afternoon:
He might be edging towards his late thirties, but Defoe still possesses that killer finish in-front of goal, and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down, does he?
Do you think he’ll stay at Rangers next season? And can he be the catalyst that helps the Ibrox club end their trophy drought?
