Virgil Van Dijk is Bookies’ Favourite to Win Ballon D’Or

Virgil van Dijk is now the bookies’ favourite to win the Ballon d’Or.

The Liverpool defender picked up UEFA’s Player of the Year award in August after helping lead his side to the Champions League last season.

The Dutchman was arguably their best player as they won that competition and finished second behind Manchester City in the Premier League.

Lionel Messi won FIFA’s The Best Men’s Player in September – reward for yet more fine form with Barcelona.

But it’s the Liverpool centre back who is leading the bookmakers’ betting to scoop the Ballon d’Or in December.

According to Coral, he’s the 4/11 favourite ahead of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo:

Van Dijk made 50 appearances for Liverpool last season, scoring six goals in a very entertaining team.

Luka Modric is the current Ballon d’Or holder, beating Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann to scoop the award in 2018 after his performances in Europe for Real Madrid and at the World Cup with Croatia.
