FAST FORWARD

Tonight, Saturday the 7th of November inManchester Heavyweight Martin Bakole is back with a  fight against Rodney Hervandez whilst featherweight Gamal Yafai takes on Lee Clayton. Both Bakole and Yafai should be fine and I would hope that, for Billy Nelson, Bakole really puts on a show and he gets the bigger stage he deserves.

Super bantamweight Qais Ashfaq takes on Scotland’s Joe Ham for the WBA continental title and there is a lot of support behind Ashfaq in what is a re run of the 2014 Commonwealth Games Quarter Final which Ashfaq won 3-0. Tonight, I reckon the tables might be in the same place and the Olympian from 2016 marches forward.

Super featherweight Terri Harper goes for her 9th straight win against the tough and highly difficult Viviane Obenauf in defending her IBO title. Obenauf is well known to us and beat Natasha Jonas though has lost to Katie Taylor and Chantelle Cameron so Harper has a tough task but should be more than equal to it.

Also, on the bill there is the mouth watering super lightweight title fight between Christina Linardatou and Katie Taylor for Linardatou’s WBO title. Of course, we all think that Taylor is greatest female fighter of all time, but she is coming up in weight and this might be a test of whether she can manage it and bring power OR if there are fights at bigger weights against much bigger names that could be made…

Taylor on points for me.

The Commonwealth middleweight title is on the line between Felix Cash and Jack Cullen, with Cash well fancied.

The audience are all, however, in the arena to salute Anthony Crolla in his final headline fight against Frank Urquiaga for the WBA continental belt. Crolla will head to the hills and hang up the gloves after tonight but one more hurrah, one more scrap and with the crowd behind him he should be fine. Urquiaga is not here though just to make up numbers…

Also, tonight in Blackburn lightweight James Roberts makes his debut against the fighting hairdresser, Joe Beeden. Likely to be a home win… also in Leicester we have a further 7 fights

Over in Las Vegas overnight lightweight Ryan Garcia takes on Romero Duno for the WBC silver and WBA NABO belt on the undercard of the WBO light heavyweight title fight between Saul Canelo Alvarez and Sergey Kovalev. You can see Garcia winning well but the intrigue behind Canelo going so far up in weight to take on Krusher is really worth staying up over night for. Kovalev is at the end of his career and this might be his cash out fight, whilst Canelo is bringing his reputation and that may be enough to make it a straightforward night? I don’t know.

Also, in Carson we havesuper flyweight action between Jerwin Ancajas and Jonathon Javier Rodriguez for the IBF belt and super featherweight action between Miguel Bertchelt and Jason Sosa for the WBC crown. Ancajas and Bertchelt for me…

Over in San Antonio we have a British boxer unable to fight under the British Boxing Board of Control, Iain Weaver who takes on Christian Santibanez for the ABF American West title. Weaver is unable to box with BBB of C due to an adverse finding in a brain scan. To this I shall return at some point…

Finally, for the weekend, on Sunday, the 3rd of November in Maidstone there are 6 fights scheduled.

Later on in the week, on Thursday the 7th of November in Saitama, Japan the super bantamweight World Boxing Super Series Final is between Nonito Donaire and Naoya Inoue for the WBA and IBF world titles supported by the WBC bantamweight title fight between Nordine Oubaali and Takuala Inoue. This time round the World Boxing Super Series has really delivered and I reckon 2 Inoue wins in one night. The final may be over mid rounds…
