Current Arsenal manager Unai Emery is under serious pressure at the moment, with the North London side currently going through their worst start to a season since the 1982/83 campaign, and Petit believes a lack of leadership is one of the big problems at the Emirates.
Gerrard has been in charge of Rangers since the summer of 2018 and whilst he’s still waiting for his first trophy, the ex-England midfielder has undoubtedly transformed the previously rudderless Ibrox side during his time in Glasgow.
Gerrard has been mentioned as a potential future Liverpool manager by Jurgen Klopp, but it seems World Cup winner Petit has other ideas, as he said via the Sun: “Arsenal needs a great leader now.
“Someone who can bring back the passion, someone respected by the players, someone who can fill the team with energy and the winning mentality.
“Steven Gerrard, for example, is like this.
“I want to see passion, emotion. Someone who, when he takes your hand, you can feel the electricity.
“I want someone who can bring that to the Arsenal dressing room, because they need to wake up.
“My opinion is that most of the players have given up on Emery, so it’s time for him to go.”
Do you think Gerrard could potentially re-establish Arsenal as a serious force to be reckoned with in the Premier League?
