Having won 1-0 away from home against Ajax two weeks ago, a rematch between the two same sides at Stamford Bridge was expected to be a formality for Frank Lampard’s side tonight, but it was anything but.
At half-time, Chelsea were 3-1 down to the Dutch champions, and were eventually 4-1 behind in the 55th minute when Donny van de Beek coolly slotted home.
However, with Chelsea looking dead and buried, Ajax were dealt not one but TWO red cards, with Daley Blind and Joel Veltman both shown second yellow cards – which allowed the home side a route back into things.
Azpilicueta made it 4-2, before Jorginho made it 4-3 from the penalty spot, and that set things up perfectly for James to steel the show, as well as a hard-earned point for his team:
He spent last season on-loan at Wigan in the Championship, but do you think James could be a key player for Chelsea this season?
