Cluj Boss Dan Petrescu Says Celtic ‘Can Go All the Way’ and Win the Europa League

CFR Cluj manager Dan Petrescu has backed Celtic to go a long way in this season’s Europa League – insisting the Parkhead club are good enough to win the entire competition.

The Romanian champions will host their Scottish counterparts tomorrow night in the teams’ fourth meeting so far this season, with Celtic already assured of topping their Europa League group, and Cluj assured of progression if they avoid defeat on Thursday.

Celtic have come a long way since losing their Champions League third round qualifier to Cluj 5-4 on aggregate and Petrescu has kept a close eye on Neil Lennon’s side’s progression.

Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow night’s game, via the Sun, the ex-Chelsea defender explained: “In my opinion they can go all the way and win.

“I think Lazio, too – they are good enough to win this competition. They are both Champions League teams.

“Celtic can bring their third team to the Romanian Championship and they would still win so they are still the favourites.

“I’m sure they won’t come here for a draw this time. I know the coach, I know the mentality. They will come here to win.”

Of course, the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Sevilla and Inter Milan will all be in the Europa League knockout rounds, but do you think Petrescu has a point?

Could Celtic make it to May’s final in Gdansk?
