Fast Forward – Golden and Olympic – Christmas 2019

Remember you can join in the debate with us on Twitter here and get in on the conversation with us at our new Facebook page here. No excuses then.

Tonight, being Saturday the 14th of December, in Brentwood, after the excitement last night of Ultimate Boxxer 6 and the heavyweight feast in Saudi Arabia a week ago we are in for lighter contests tonight – though just as ferocious – as the MTK Golden Contact contest showcases their light heavyweights.

This format is quite different to the Prize fighter upgrade, Ultimate Boxxer, in that the Golden Contract quarter finals, semi finals and finals will come over 3 x 10 round fights and not on the one night. It also makes fighters draw for lots to get A side fighters who then choose their B list partners.

It is this format that has perhaps given us the best fight of the series as a headliner for tonight; Hosea Burton v Bob Ajisafe. These two should be in the final but due to Ajisafe getting to pick and getting to pick last, he was left with Burton, who everyone else avoided…

The other quarter finals are Tommy Philbin in against Serge Michel, Andre Sterling faces Liam Conroy, and Steven Ward is up against Ricardo Bolotniks. The semi final four are most likely to be Philbin, Conroy, Ward and either Burton or Ajisafe. I reckon Burton but Ajisafe is a very experienced pro.

Over in Madison Square Gardens the WBO welterweight action is between pound for pound King Terence Crawford and Egidijus Kavaliauskas. Crawford should manage to come through this with little trouble and end the year on a high.

The lightweight IBF title fight is between champion Richard Commey and Teofimo Lopez and I hear that Commey is in phenomenal shape – Commey for me then…

The 2019 rematch of all rematches is at featherweight as Michael Conlan faces the man who “beat” him in the Olympics, Vladimir Nikitin. Nikitin was an innocent in all the shenanigans that went on at the Olympics but here Conlan gets to show that he can beat the Russian fair and square – again…

Over here and in York Hall welterweight Harley Benn takes on MJ Hall and the WBO European title is on the line between Quiase Khademi and Pedro Matos at super flyweight. The younger Benn takes his next big stride for me and I have no idea who might win the European title… there are 17 other fights also on the card…

Up in Aberdeen BIBA bring super lightweight Nathan Beattie in against Razak Nettey for the PBC international title alongside 4 other fights. Beattie not to win would be the shock.

We also have in Bolton 5 fights, and in Huyton 4 fights.

Tomorrow night, Sunday the 15th of December in Southsea we have 5 fights with lightweight Lucy Wildheart facing Denisa Cicoova. Wildheart is being noticed and note so will be interested to see which way this fight goes.

We also have in Manchester 4 fights, and in Leeds no fewer than 7 fights

On Thursday the 19th of December in York Hall we havesuper bantamweight Ivan “Hopey” Price, back from a successful stoppage win in Saudi Arabia, super bantamweight Shannon Courtenay, and the British cruiserweight title fight between Richard Riakporhe and Jack Massey – both unbeaten and both heavily fancied for the future. This ought to be an outstanding York Hall cracker of a fight and I fancy Riakporhe to do it.

We also have in a busy week in Colchester BIBA with 5 fights and in Gateshead 2 fights…

On Friday the 20th of December in Phoenix, Arizona theWBC flyweight title fight between Julio Cesar Aguilar and Cristofer Rosales. We know Rosales well and know he is capable but Aguilar should have enough.

Finally, in Bolton there are 6 fights to finish off a week of boxing the likes of which, this close to Christmas would be hard to remember being this busy – and we haven’t finished the year yet… see below… go on then…

Saturday 21st December

California – Super welterweight WBC title action between Tony Harrison and Jermell Charlo

Russia – Cruiserweight action between Denis Lebedev and Thabiso Mchunu for the WBC silver belt

Copper Box Arena, London – Queensberry brings us light heavyweight and all action TV star, Tommy Fury, super flyweight Sunny Edwards fighting for the British title against Marcel Braithwaite, a middleweight battle between Liam Williams and Alantez Fox and top of the bill, Daniel Dynamite Dubois against Kyotaro Fujimoto for the WBC silver and WBO international titles.

Manchester – 7 fights

Monday 23rd December

Kanagawa, Japan – The WBA middleweight title fight between Ryota Murata and Steven Butler.
