Having won promotion to the English Championship from League One last season – ahead of Jack Ross’s Sunderland side – Stendel was given the chop by the Barnsley hierarchy in October, leaving him free to takeover from Craig Levein at Tynecastle.
However, Stendel has issued a statement via his official Facebook page, and the man himself insists he has never been handed an adequate explanation for his dismissal.
The new Jambos boss wrote: ‘The week before my dismissal I asked for an open discussion about sporting situation with a board member, during which none of the reasons that apparently led to my dismissal were raised as complaints.
“I was always honest and documented strongly that I wanted to continue to work with the team in order to achieve the goals of the club.
“I was then dismissed after the disappointing defeat to Preston.”
Stendel will begin his spell as Hearts manager this Saturday in a massive match at home to St. Johnstone, before hosting Neil Lennon’s formidable Celtic side at Tynecastle a week on Wednesday.
But what do you think of his appointment, and will he be a success in Edinburgh?
