The Colombian striker was pivotal again this evening as his goal helped Rangers to a 1-1 draw in their final Europa League group game.
Steven Gerrard’s men went into tonight’s games knowing that at least a point would see them through.
After Morelos’ opening goal it looked like Rangers would be going through to the last 32 as winners of their group – with Porto losing to Feyenoord at the time.
But a Borna Barisic own goal coupled with a Porto comeback to win 3-2 meant Rangers had to settle for second and a spot in the knockout stages beyond Christmas.
Going through was the main aim for Gerrard and his men – producing a positive after the negative of Sunday’s Betfred Cup Final defeat to Celtic.
At Hampden, Morelos had a frustrating afternoon, missing a number of chances and a penalty in the second half of a game Rangers dominated.
Morelos was obviously aware of how he’d let the fans down in Sunday’s game so made sure they knew he was sorry while celebrating tonight:
Rangers fans will still be disappointed after Sunday’s game, but going through tonight is a big achievement for the Ibrox club.
