Peter Crouch told of the funny reason why Xabi Alonso bought a Liverpool team-mate a bird for his secret santa.

The former Anfield striker appeared on BT Sport this afternoon to cover his old side’s 2-0 victory over Watford in the English Premier League.

He was joined by Jake Humphrey and Joe Cole on the show and they got talking about Christmas time at football clubs before the game kicked off.

Crouch and Cole spoke about the pressure of having a party while results weren’t going well, while also talking about secret santa.

And Crouch also told a funny story about Alonso buying a team-mate a canary. The reason is even better:

You have to wonder who the player was?

Liverpool beat Watford earlier thanks to Mohamed Salah’s two goals – and that result takes his side 11 points clear at the top of the English Premier League table.

They will now travel to Qatar to play in the FIFA Club World Cup as European champions.
