Liverpool superstar Virgil van Dijk has thrown some serious shade at Cristiano Ronaldo during this evening’s Ballon d’Or awards.

The Netherlands captain is one of the challengers to take home the coveted prize at tonight’s glitzy ceremony in Paris, with Barcelona phenomenon Leo Messi currently the front-runner and bookies’ favourite.

One man who won’t be attending the bash is five-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo, who has opted to stay away after despite his club Juventus having no games this midweek.

As he entered the plush Thรฉรขtre du Chรขtelet venue, van Dijk was asked by the waiting media about the Portuguese striker’s absence, and he certainly didn’t hold back when giving his opinion:

The former Celtic defender probably just meant the comment as a joke, but even so, what do you think of the remark?

And how angry do you think Ronaldo will be once he hears about it?
