Steven Gerrard’s side lost their first away game in the Ladbrokes Premiership this season at Tynecastle, with first-choice striker Alfredo Morelos serving the final match of a three-game ban after his sending-off against Celtic on December 29.
Veteran forward Jermain Defoe has proved a trusted stand-in for Morelos over the last year or so, and the ex-England man has 16 goals in all competitions so far in the campaign, but the 37-year-old looked his age on Sunday afternoon.
Defoe let several gilt-edged opportunities slip through his grasp, and it seems the subject of a new striker is on the lips of plenty of supporters today:
Saturday is February 1 – but do you think Gerrard and Rangers will bring in a new hit-man before then?
And do they even really need to?
