Ronaldinho Says Arsenal’s Martinelli Reminds Him of Brazilian Legend Ronaldo

The legendary Ronaldinho has said Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli reminds him of his former Brazil team-mate and fellow World Cup winner Ronaldo.

Martinelli wasn’t expected to feature much in the first-team after joining the Gunners for a bargain £6 million in the summer from Brazilian side Ituano, but his excellent form has seen the 18-year-old force his way into the starting XI, and he currently has an impressive 10 goals in all competitions this season.

And it seems the youngster is making plenty of admirers back in his homeland – most notably in the form of ex-Barcelona and AC Milan hero Ronaldinho.

Speaking via the Mirror, the former Ballon d’Or winner explained: “We as Brazilians are very excited about him and his future.

“It is one thing to have the talent – but another at the age of 18 to have the confidence.

“He reminds me of Ronaldo his first season in Europe he scored 30 goals and people were thinking: ‘who is this 18 year old Brazilian kid?’

“He wanted the ball, he would run at players, there was no fear no matter what players or team he was playing against – and I see that similar attitude in Martinelli.

“He just wants to be on the ball and score goals. Ronaldo went on to be the best player in the world – and that can also be the aim of Martinelli.”

Given Martinelli is performing so well at such a high level, do you think Ronaldinho is justified in comparing him to the original Ronaldo?

And do Arsenal have a potentially elite talent on their hands?
