Steven Gerrard has given Rangers fans a positive update on Jermain Defoe’s future.
The Ibrox manager sat down in front of the media this morning ahead of his side’s Ladbrokes Premiership clash with Hearts on Sunday.
It’s another game that Defoe will start as Alfredo Morelos continues to miss out through suspension.
Defoe scored the winning goal for Rangers in their midweek 1-0 win over St Mirren.
That was his 16th goal of the season and he’ll have his sights set on scoring more than 20 before the end of the campaign.
And Gerrard is keen to extend his stay at the club beyond his loan from Bournemouth, which ends in the summer – the same time his contract with the English Premier League club expires.
The Rangers manager spoke this morning:
That will be positive news for Rangers fans who are keen to see Defoe remain with the club beyond the end of the season.
Morelos has been the number one striker at the club since Defoe’s arrival, but he’s been rotated for his experienced teammate at times and has missed some action through suspension during that time.
Rangers – would you be happy to sign Defoe permanently?
