Steven Gerrard admits he’s ‘shocked’ by his Rangers side’s defeat at Hearts – whilst admitting he didn’t recognise his players throughout the 2-1 reverse.

It looked like Gerrard’s side were heading for a seventh consecutive win when Ryan Kent made it 1-0 at Tynecastle just one minute into the second-half, with their hosts going into the contest rock-bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership.

But a new-look Daniel Stendel side rallied in the final half-hour, with Steven Naismith and new signing Liam Boyce scoring to turn the game on its head – and leave Gerrard obviously fuming as he spoke to Sky Sports after the full-time whistle:

Gerrard and his players are now five points off the summit of the table after Celtic’s 3-0 win over Ross County, albeit with a game in-hand over their bitter Glasgow rivals.

But how significant is today’s result in terms of the title race, and in terms of the relegation fight at the bottom of the league?
