Arsenal are exploring what could transpire to be an extraordinary send-off match for Santi Cazorla – almost a full four years after he played his final official match for the club.
The little Spaniard became a hero to supporters of the North London side, partly because of his mercurial midfield displays, but also because of his determination to continually fightback from gruesome injury after injury.
Cazorla made his last-ever Gunners appearance against Ludogorets in the Champions League in October 2016, eventually leaving Arsenal after his contract expired in the summer of 2018 and denied a proper chance to say goodbye to the club’s fans.
The World Cup winner looked set to retire, however, now 35, Cazorla has been enjoying something of a renaissance at Villarreal, where he has scored an impressive 13 goals so far this season – and it seems he might yet get his final farewell.
According to football.london, Arsenal representatives indicated at a fan forum on Monday night that there is the possibility for Cazorla to return the Emirates at some point to complete his goodbyes to the fans.
Arranging what exactly that would entail whilst Cazorla is still contracted to Villarreal would be complicated, but it seems there’s a desire in both camps to see it happen – and wouldn’t that be an amazing finale to a brilliant career?
What do you think would be a fitting farewell?
