Celtic supporters have been praising defender Stephen Welsh after his senior debut for the club in today’s win at Hamilton.
With Jozo Simunovic still wrestling with a long-term knee injury, Welsh was given the nod to start his first-ever match in the Ladbrokes Premiership this afternoon in Neil Lennon’s back-three defence, and the 20-year-old certainly didn’t look out of place.
Welsh spent the first-half of the season on-loan at Championship side Greenock Morton where he impressed, and it seems he’s done enough to convince Lennon he deserves a shot at being a first-team regular for the reigning Scottish champions.
It remains to be seen if Welsh will retain his spot in the starting XI for Wednesday night’s tricky-looking clash away to Motherwell but he can sleep tonight knowing he’s impressed plenty of the Hoops’ fanbase:
What did you make of Welsh’s performance in today’s 4-1 victory, and should he keep his jersey for Wednesday’s clash?
