Carlton Cole missed a penalty that cost a group of supporters the chance of winning £400 on Soccer AM this morning – but followed it up with an amazing gesture to make it up to them.

The former Celtic striker was on the Sky Sports and Sky One show this morning and took part in their usual kickabout features.

With £200 earned by the Middlesbrough supporters, Cole was trusted to step up and double their money if he could score a penalty.

But instead of smashing it down the middle or sending the keeper the wrong way, he tried a Panenka.

And it went all wrong.

As you can see from the reaction, everyone was devastated:

But Cole was determined to make it up to them – and forked out £400 of his own money once the show ended.

Tim Craig was one of the Boro supporters let down by Cole and he shared an image of the bank transfer from the former Premier League man:

Cole himself admitted he had a shocker, but hoped the supporters enjoyed their day out on him:

You’ve got to love that from Cole!
