Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has joked that he’s happy to step into the breach and solve his side’s penalty woes – by taking the next one.
The Ibrox club pulled off a brilliant result tonight by beating Braga 1-0 in Portugal in the Europa League’s last-32, with Ryan Kent’s second-half goal enough to seal the away victory and ensure they progressed to the last-16 4-2 on aggregate.
However, whilst the final whistle promoted wild celebrations from the thousands of travelling fans, Gerrard will be forensically picking over the tie and looking at how his team can improve – and first stop will be the penalty taking.
Despite the win, Ianis Hagi became the third Gers player to miss a penalty this season, and his saved effort means they’ve now missed four out of their last 10 spot-kicks.
Speaking to BT Sport afterwards, Gerrard joked he’s the man to get them back on track:
On a serious note, who do you think should take the next penalty for Rangers?
