Why Alfredo Morelos Is Dropped From Rangers Squad For Scottish Cup Clash With Hearts

Alfredo Morelos has been dropped from Rangers’ squad for their Scottish Cup clash with Hearts due to a disciplinary issue.

The Colombian was a surprise omission from this evening’s squad for the trip to Tynecastle.

Steven Gerrard named his side with Morelos nowhere to be seen on the team sheet, instead opting for Greg Stewart from the start and Jermain Defoe on the bench.

And it’s now been revealed that Morelos misses out as a result of returning from a trip to Colombia a day late.

Gerrard revealed the reason pre-match:

Morelos was suspended for Rangers’ Europa League last-32 second leg clash away at Braga on Thursday so was allowed to return to Colombia to take care of a family matter.

But with deputy Florian Kamberi Cup-tied for this game, he was expected to return to the starting XI for what is a tough trip to Gorgie.

Instead, it’s a big chance for Stewart to show he’s good enough to play for Rangers.
