FAST FORWARD
It is hard to know what there is left to write about as tonight, Saturday the 14th of March in Madison Square Gardens, New York the entire bill including the WBO featherweight title fight between Shakur Stevenson and Miguel Marriaga is off.
At home we do at Bolton have 11 scheduled fights, in Colne 6 fights, in Leicester there are 5 fights whilst in York Hall we have 12 fights, in Liverpool 8 fights that include super middleweight Tom Farrell allegedly making an appearance whilst in Cardiff there are 6 fights to conclude the evening.
(By the time you read this they could ALL be off!!!)
Of course we also have in the Copper Box from now until next week the Olympic trials which have Carline Dubois, Galal Yafai, Luke McCormack and Pat McCormack, amongst many others trying to get a place in an Olympics in Tokyo that might, might not take place. I was drawn to the name of Delphine Persoon, of Belgium who was the “winner” in most people’s eyes of the fight in MSG against Katie Taylor, making her amateur debut in an attempt to get to Tokyo! I can guarantee if they do continue to go ahead and with cheap tickets, they shall be well worth the entrance fee.
In the week’s end on Friday the 20th of March in Cleethorpes we have 5 fights and in York Hall the Commonwealth and British title fight between Phillip Bowes and Akeem Ennis-Brown at super lightweight is the main undercard for the latest round of the Golden Contract. Bowes and Ennis-Brown is a decent contest and we are all hoping they can go ahead and give us some well needed cheer. The Golden Contract semi-finals sees the light heavyweights on show, and it is between Hosea Burton, Liam Conroy, Sege Michel and Ricards Bolotniks. If it goes ahead then it should be a cracker – they get to choose their opponents on Tuesday so all eyes will be on that – and the announcements re which is the next sporting event to be cancelled.
Already cancelled is the Glasgow bill which had the Celtic bantamweight fight between Scott Allan and Gary Rae with an undercard of featherweight Craig Morgan, and super featherweights Andy Tham, and Jordan McCorry.
Hoping to get the go ahead in Barnsley will be 10 fights that include the IBO continental title fight at super lightweight between Lee Appleyard and Ahmed Mweva. Appleyard is who I think will take the title.
