Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed he grew-up being a fan of Celtic – but now has a soft spot for their Old Firm rivals Rangers because of Steven Gerrard.
At the tender age of just 21, Alexander-Arnold has already established himself as one of European football’s most exciting full-backs, having played a key role in the Reds’ Champions League triumph last season and their assault on this season’s Premier League.
Being born and raised in the city, Alexander-Arnold was always Liverpool through-and-through but, like a lot of young football fans in England, he had a fondness for one of Scotland’s big two as well.
Speaking in an interview with GQ Magazine, when asked about his ‘second’ team, the jet-heeled right-back replied: “Growing up I was Celtic, but now, because of the connection [Steven Gerrard managing Rangers], I’m probably neutral up there now.
“But I’d say my favourite other team would be Barça. I feel as though they’ve got kind of the same values and beliefs as Liverpool.”
As we told you last week, Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool team-mate and fellow full-back Andy Robertson is still Celtic-daft and would choose to be quarantined with Henrik Larsson, if given the opportunity.
Perhaps it’s time for Robbo to have a few words about loyalties with Alexander-Arnold!
