Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed he hopes to extend Odsonne Edouard‘s contract at the Parkhead club.
The Frenchman is the Hoops’ record signing, having joined on a permanent transfer from PSG in a £9 million deal back in 2018, and the 22-year-old has gone on to cement himself as a real fan favourite over the last two season.
Edouard had banged in 28 goals in all competitions before football was suspended due to the coronavirus crisis, leading to inevitable speculation that he could be targeted by English Premier League sides, with the Evening Standard crediting Arsenal with an interest.
Edouard put pen to paper on a four-year deal when he joined Celtic permanently, and still has two years left to run, but Lennon confirms he’d like to see his prize asset extend his contract.
Speaking via the Sun, Lennon said: “Ideally we’d like to sit down with him.
“The landscape has changed from where we were a month ago to now. There’s no doubt about that.
“It’s uncertain. Ideally you would like to keep your prized assets for at least another year anyway.
“If the market galvanises itself again, you could look at it then.
“There’s no question there’s going to be interest in him.
“But ideally we’d like to tie him down to another year on top of what he has already and keep him here.”
Given he’s still pretty young, do you think Edouard will stick around for the 20/21 season, and potentially an assault on 10-in-a-row?
