UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has confirmed neither Celtic nor Liverpool will be automatically crowned champions of their respective divisions if leagues are forcibly cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
After a video conference between member nations yesterday, UEFA revealed they’re hoping to have all domestic leagues back up, running and completed by no later than June 30 – but what happens if the current pandemic escalates and gets worse?
Well, if the leagues are completely cancelled and made null and void, neither runaway leader of the Scottish Premiership or the English Premier League should be planning a title party just yet.
Speaking to a group of journalists, via SportBible, Ceferin said: “I’ve saw and heard some again fake news that Uefa will advise leagues to finish the championships now and decide that the winners are the ones who are number one now.
“I can say that it’s not true. Our goal is to finish the leagues and we didn’t recommend anything like that to any association or any league.”
The leagues were postponed with Celtic 13 points clear at the top of the Premiership, whilst Liverpool were a whopping 25 points ahead in the English top-flight – so what do you make of Ceferin’s comments?
