Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has criticised Matt Polster for his defending in the build-up to one of Bayer Leverkusen‘s goals tonight.
The Ibrox club welcomed the classy Bundesliga outfit to Glasgow for this evening’s Europa League last-16 first-leg tie and were comfortably beaten 3-1 by their superior Bundesliga opponents.
Kai Havertz, Charles Aranguiz and Leo Bailey scored for Leverkuse, with George Edmundson pulling back what looks little more than a consolation goal in the complexion of the overall tie, but whilst Gerrard admitted his players were up against a ‘class’ side, he seemed pretty upset by the defending for Bailey’s late strike, which made it 3-1.
In his post-match interview with BT Sport, the Gers gaffer singled-out Polster and his ‘disappointing’ defending before the Jamaican winger slammed the ball past a helpless Allan McGregor:
Do you seen any way back for Rangers in next week’s second-leg, if it’s even played at all?
