The pandemic is making itself heard and felt with a number of boxers testing positive and contests are being called off, postponed or just adding to the speculation and debate. Whilst you are always wishing the fighter well, no matter what illness it is they contract, it has kept the media busy as they try and work out what this means for this fight, that division or the future of both boxers and promoters.
Below are all the fights that have managed to not be affected by COVID… whilst at least one card has been disrupted.
Tonight, Saturday the 7th of November in Florida we havethe WBC lightweight title fight between Devin Haney and Yuriorkis Gamboa. Matchroom USA will want Haney to come out with the win and it has to be said, I cannot see a different result, the only question is, how.
Also on the bill, not that the heavyweight scene needs more intrigue, we have two Matchroom fringe level candidates in Zhilei Zhang and Filip Hrgovic fighting. Both have opponents they shall be expected to beat and beat well as Hrgovic faces Rydell Booker, whilst Zhang faces Derrin Vargas.
During the week, on Tuesday the 10th of November we are back at theBT Studio with 8 fights including the cruiserweight Michael Lawal taking on Ossie Jerver and former Love Islander, Jack Fincham making his debut. This is a decent enough card and with only 2 losses on the 8 home fighter’s records it is easy to see who is expected to win.
On Wednesday the 11th the November in South Kirkby, MTK are back with the WBC international super welterweight fight between Tursynbay Kulak Hmet and McAuley McGowan, whilst the EBU bantamweight belt was on the line between Karim Guerfi and Lee MacGregor but is now off. All attention now on whether McGowan can do it…
Finally on Friday the 13th of November in the BT Studio, Frank Warren in his second trip of the week gives us light heavyweight Tommy Fury, super flyweight WBO/IBF European title action between Quaise Khademi and Ijaz Ahmed and the British middleweight title fight between Mark Heffron and Denzel Bentley. Also added to the card is the WBC international super bantamweight fight between Michael Ramabeletsa and Chris Bourke.
Good to see this Fury back in the ring whilst the other three fights, especially Heffron/Bentley are pretty tasty. It looks like a very good Friday night card of entertainment and whilst we don’t have headline names some very good honest pros looking to progress their careers and will be worth the watch.
Saturday 14th November
The triple header for female boxing as bantamweight Rachel Ball takes on Jorgelina Guanini for the WBA title, super featherweight Terri Harper defends her WBC and IBO titles against Katharina Thanderz and top of the bill is Katie Taylor in her mandatory defence against Miriam Guitierrez for all 4 belts – the WBA, WBO, IBF and WBC
The Bubble, Las Vegas
Given all the upset and the trash talking this is a cracker of a fight between Terence Crawford and Kell Brook – of course the trash talking has been between his former promoter Eddie Hearn and Kell Brook and not between the fighters! Also, on the bill is the WBO super flyweight title fight between Joshua Franco and Andre Maloney – the rematch!
