Tonight, Saturday the 30th of January we are in Perez, Argentina, for the IBF female super flyweight title fight between Micaela Milagros Lujan and Debora Vanesa Gomez. They have fought, between them, 21 times and on paper, Lujan looks the most likely to take the vacant title. This is a fight I know very little about but given the attention, rightly, women’s boxing is getting is worthy of keeping an eye out for.
Up north from there in Los Angeles we have the IBF super middleweight clash for the titles between Caleb Plant and Caleb Truax. Two Calebs in one fight – who would have thought! Smart money appears to be with the former to come away with the belt as Truax is seen as a perennial over achiever. This is the division in which Canelo has said he wants to unify so the winner might get back out to defend in a big fight much later in the year. Between then and now, this is just one fight that might scupper the planning for the winner to face the pound for pound king, and Truax, who took a points win off James DeGale in the past is the wrong kinda guy to look past. I do think, however Plant will have too much for him…
Saturday 6th February,
