Talking Baws Simple | Shareable | Sport Thu, 27 Nov 2014 20:20:56 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas Leads The Premier League Creativity Charts Thu, 27 Nov 2014 20:20:56 +0000 In the 12 Premier League matches so far, Cesc Fabregas has set up 13 goals – four more than the next best Leighton Baines. After the midfielder assisted two goals in Chelsea’s season-opening 3-1 victory at Burnley, Mourinho called him the team’s “maestro”, and increasingly the Blues are singing to Fabregas’s tune.

Fabregas has also contributed heavily to the stats which show Chelsea’s past completing at 86% so far this season, with pass completion in the all important final third at a record high 79%.

Coupled with the fact that they now rank 18th in the league for the amount of long ball passes, Chelsea fans will be rejoicing at Jose Mourinho’s new brand of football.

In all areas Chelsea are firing, which looks ominous for opponents in both the Premier League and Champions League. The bus is certainly not parked, and Mourinho’s Chelsea team has been augmented by a chillingly efficient midfield and attack, with Fabregas the star man.

Florida State Players Facetime Hospital-Bound 17-Year-Old Fan Thu, 27 Nov 2014 20:09:09 +0000 Jayse Simpson is a huge fan of Florida State.

He’s also a currently struggling after having three open-heart surgeries.

So, on Monday night when Jayse returned to hospital to find out what was next – whether he would require more surgery or not – he was understandably feeling vulnerable and alone.

That was until Jayse received a Facetime call… with a difference.

When the 17-year-old fan’s phone rang, it was none-other than Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, who wanted to wish the youngster good luck and tell him to stay strong.

That in itself was a wonderful heart-warming act, but what was to follow would only surpass that.

When Jayse’s conversation with Winston was over, his phone rang once again and this time it was FSU kicker Robert Aguayo.

And then again when offensive linemen Cameron Erving and Jose Matias wanted to wish him well and then finally Jayse’s favourite player, receiver Bobo Wilson called.

When Jayse finally got off the phone, he had been contacted individually by almost the entire FSU roster.

Jayse’s mother told the Tallahassee Democrat:

“They took time out of their day, out of their week – this week that means the most to Florida State football.

“They told him to be strong. And that he was going to get through it no matter what. Just the fact that they took time out of their day to call a kid they didn’t know, it was just really cool.

“And it was another and another and another. They made sure they stayed with him that day.”

VIDEO: Barcelona Pair Lionel Messi And Neymar Square-Off In Keepy-Uppy Competition Thu, 27 Nov 2014 19:14:59 +0000 It was always going to be interesting to see how Neymar would settle into life at Barcelona after he joined the club from Santos last year.

Would he be able to cope with the more frantic pace of La Liga and more importantly, how would he feature in a Barca squad where Lionel Messi was the main man, and not himself?

The answer is pretty clear 12 months on with the Brazilian superstar developing an almost telepathic understanding with Messi on the pitch.

More than that, Neymar has scored 11 goals in 11 La Liga games and he’s finally showing the Camp Nou the jaw-dropping skills which made him a YouTube sensation before his transfer.

Not that he’s quite reached Messi’s level yet though…

But still, when the prodigy took on the master at a keepy-up challenge during a recent Audi event it made for very interesting viewing:

The Argentine may have beaten the Brazilian with more touches on this occasion – 1004 to 989 – but the youngster still gave a very good account of himself.

VIDEO: Arsenal Prank Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck And Santi Cazorla With Hilarious Driving Challenge Thu, 27 Nov 2014 18:14:35 +0000 The Arsenal players have received a fair bit of stick this season, having been part of the Gunners worst start to a domestic campaign in 32 years.

But thankfully the club isn’t the type to wallow in self-pity.

Nope, they are the type of club that comes out all guns blazing.

And this latest prank which sees Arsenal team-up with Citroen shows exactly that – along with a hysterical Danny Welbeck

The targets were of course Arsenal first-team trio Welbeck, Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla, who were under the impression they were taking part in a driving challenge to greet the latest Arsenal Ladies signing.

However, Annalese Ferrari isn’t a professional footballer, but an undercover stunt driver.

The clip begins with Ramsey, Welbeck and Cazorla all taking turns behind the wheel, with Cazorla’s awful driving a particular highlight.

Then, once the players are all lured in to believing the challenge is legit, Ferrari takes the wheel…

Welbeck may have claimed he’s matured into a man since leaving Manchester United for the Emirates, but going by his screams in this clip… he might have a way to go yet.

Wigan Chairman, Dave Whelan, Charged By FA Over Racist Comments Thu, 27 Nov 2014 17:51:17 +0000 Wigan Athletic Chairman, Dave Whelan, has been charged by the FA following racist comments made in an interview earlier this month. The derogatory comments aimed at Jewish and Chinese people made him a figure of ridicule in modern sporting circles and media outlets, but he insists that he was misquoted and taken out of context following his appointment of Malky Mackay as the Latics manager, who is also under investigation following the release of racist text messages sent during his time as manager of Cardiff City.

He previously said he would resign his post at Wigan if the FA punishes him so we will wait to see if he follows through on his promise. He has until the 5th December to respond to the charge.

Fabio Borini: Thiago Alcantara Is The Best Player I’ve Ever Played Against, He Was Uncatchable Thu, 27 Nov 2014 17:33:40 +0000 Liverpool‘s Fabio Borini, Raheem Sterling, Simon Mignolet and Emre Can met a group of teens from the Kicks Programme this week and were each grilled on what it’s like to play for the club.

The question & answer session was part of a Warrior and LFC Foundation event to celebrate the work the programme does and to help raise awareness.

The players were asked what they would be doing if it wasn’t for football and even more interestingly, who is the best player they have ever played against.

Sterling and Mignolet both, as you’d expect, pipped for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Can was clearly thinking outside the box when he chose CR7’s Real Madrid team-mate Isco.

But it was Fabio Borini who really pulled one out of the hat, when he surprisingly chose Bayern Munich’s 23-year-old, Thiago Alacantara.

Borini, who signed for the club in 2012, said:

“Two games that I remember, the player was uncatchable, did whatever he wanted to do with the ball. He was a very difficult player to play against.”

Thiago has been likened to Barcelona legend Xavi throughout his career, and when he has been fully fit for selection at the Allianz Arena he’s shown that this comparison is far from wide of the mark.

The Italian also joked that the best player he had ever played with was Sterling:

“Raheem! I have played with a lot of good players on international duty like Totti, Pirlo, Stevie G, Drogba and the chance to play with all of them was special”

Warrior Football has donated £50,000 worth of kit to the Liverpool FC Foundation to distribute to community charities locally and overseas.

The Foundation’s programmes encourage people of all ages, ethnic groups and disabilities to take part in team sports as a fun and healthy platform to develop life skills such as confidence building, motivation, and teamwork.

Can Anyone Stop Chelsea? Thu, 27 Nov 2014 16:15:37 +0000 Already this season feels as though it is less about the pursuit of the title for Chelsea as the pursuit of records. They are six points clear at the top of the Premier League having dropped four points from 12 games and, with all due respect to Southampton, they are eight points clear of their nearest realistic title rivals.

Even more worryingly for the pack, they have already played away at Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton. There may be 26 hurdles still between them and the finish line but the sense is that the most testing ones have been cleared.

After their midweek drubbing of Schalke in the Champions League, teams around Europe are really starting to sit up and take notice of the new and exciting style of football being concocted at Stamford Bridge. They are very different in style to the Jose Mourinho sides of previous years, with a real edge to their play, not normally associated with Mourinho’s teams.

Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard make them tick creatively, combined with a solid defensive backbone, it is little wonder Chelsea are dismantling anyone in their way. As Glenn Hoddle pointed out on Sky Sports, Mourinho has the best back-four in the competition, which coupled with their attacking play, makes for one hell of a team.

Chelsea look ruthless and, importantly, ‘in the moment’ at a crucial stage of the season. Fit and firing when the points are available. Saturday kicks of a period of eight Premier League games in 34 days and anything close to the maximum could end any semblance of a title race by New Year’s Day.

Another important point to ponder. Since joining Porto, Mourinho has won the league in his second season at every club he has been at. It looks like he is going to do it again, and perhaps in doing so, break some records along the way.
