Celtic got some welcome good news this evening as Patrick Roberts played an hour of an Under 20 win over Partick Thistle tonight.

The Hoops have been dealing with the disappointment of losing 3-0 to Zenit last night, knocking them out of the Europa League without much of a battle.

Brendan Rodgers’ men really struggled on the night, failing to muster any real opportunities to get back into a game that Zenit dominated.

But Rodgers, the squad and the fans have now got some good news with the return of Rodgers from injury tonight.

He’s not played for the first team since the end of November – with a hamstring injury picked up in a 1-1 draw with Motherwell ruling him out.

And he continued his recovery by playing an hour in a development team game against Morton tonight:

That news will be well received by supporters, with many believing they don’t look like the same team without Roberts in it.

Now they’ll be eyeing his return to Rodgers’ squad, with big games coming thick and fast.

Sunday’s match against Aberdeen will come too soon for the winger, but he could back in time for Celtic’s trip to Ibrox on March 11th.

The usual suspects are included, such as Eden Hazard, Harry Kane and Kevin de Bruyne, while de Gea retains his place as the top rated player in the league.

But there are also upgrades for Gabriel Jesus, Nemanja Matic and Riyad Mahrez after they had great first halves of the season.

Salah moves from 83 to 85 after scoring 30 goals in 36 appearances so far this season, while Kante improves from 87 to 88 after playing well for Chelsea in the first half of the campaign.

Here are the rest of the Premier League’s refreshed ratings:

FIFA 18 should announce more refreshed ratings over the coming weeks, with La Liga and the other top leagues set to follow.

But expected the refreshed players already revealed to prove very popular in Ultimate Team this weekend and fetch some eye-watering prices too.

And it was no surprise that he faced questions about Salah once more, considering the Egyptian’s ridiculous first season at the club.

After signing in a £36million move from Roma in the summer, Salah has managed 30 goals in 36 appearances, becoming one of Klopp’s main men and a favourite among the fans.

Today the Reds manager was asked if Salah has the best left foot in football, as his return this season could certainly make a case for that.

But Klopp rightly brought up Lionel Messi when giving his answer, before going on to say he doesn’t really care what Salah uses as long as the ball ends up in the goal:

We have to agree with Klopp today – Messi reminded us all in midweek that he’s still the best player on the planet and you’d be hard pushed to find a more lethal left foot in the game.

As for Salah, if he keeps scoring at this rate then it won’t be long until he’s mentioned with a move to clubs like Barcelona.

Graeme Murty’s press conference ahead of the Scottish Premiership clash with Hearts covered a range of topics.

The Ibrox manager looked relaxed as he faced the media before his side’s game tomorrow afternoon.

Rangers will be going for their fourth win on the bounce, and will hope to get in amongst the goals after hitting 11 in their last two matches.

Murty has reason to be happy because of that form – and a positive result tomorrow could see them move ahead of Aberdeen in second and cut the gap to Celtic if results go their way.

He spoke about how his side are feeling, what they expect from a competitive Hearts team, returning players and gave his thoughts on the potential fixture mess at the end of the season:

Rangers last faced Hearts at Murrayfield back in October and ran out 3-1 winners at the beginning of Murty’s tenure in caretaker charge.

But they should be improved at Ibrox tomorrow and you’d expect it will be a tough game for Craig Levein’s men.

Zenit goalscorer Aleksandr Kokorin has donated a signed strip to a fundraiser for Fernando Ricksen.

The Russian attacker scored his side’s third goal in the 3-0 win over Celtic in the Europa League last night, helping them seal a 3-1 aggregate victory and qualification for the last-16 of the competition.

BT Sport had their team over in Saint Petersburg covering the match, with David Tanner leading their coverage inside and outside the stadium.

And Tanner has now told how Kokorin was kind enough to donate his shirt to the event for former Rangers star Ricksen – who also had a three-year spell in Russia with Zenit.

Ricksen is battling ALS and tomorrow’s event at Ibrox should help him massively with that.

So Kokorin’s gesture is a classy one that shouldn’t go unnoticed by anyone in Scottish football:

Many thanks to @zenit_spb for generously donating the match strip Aleksandr Kokorin wore when he scored against Celtic last night for a charity event. The fundraiser is in aid of Zenit old boy Fernando Ricksen at @rangersfc’s Ibrox Stadium tomorrow night. The captain of the Zenit side that beat Rangers in the @uefa_official Cup final in 2008, Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, now a coach, has also donated his training top for Saturday’s charity auction. Timo was good enough to send a message to Fernando which I will pass on to him when he is in Glasgow. A nice way to end the trip to Russia. Good lucky to all involved in the fundraiser for Fernando. #fernandoricksen #zenit #stpetersburg #saintpetersburg #russia #mnd #als #motornuerondiseaseawarness #mndcharity #rangers #rangersfc #ibrox

Celtic fans don’t seem happy with reports that Tom Rogic has knocked back a new contract at the club.

According to theworldgame.sbs.com.au, the Australian international has rejected an offer from Celtic to extend his deal beyond 2019.

That’s disappointing news that comes the afternoon after Hoops fans watched their team lose 3-0 at the hands of Zenit to exit the Europa League.

Rogic has had a frustrating season, but has developed into an integral part of the first team over the last few campaigns.

So you can understand why some are frustrated to read the news about Rogic’s apparent contract situation:

Rogic has been at Celtic since 2013, initially struggling to break into the first team before emerging as a top talent under Ronny Deila.

He’s made 99 appearances for the club, scoring 23 goals in that time and helping them to six major trophies.

But, at 25, he may be eyeing a fresh challenge elsewhere as he moves into his peak years and you’d have to imagine that there will be considerable interest in the Aussie if he became available.

And that led to plenty of discussion among the Anfield support, particularly on social media.

While some would have liked it, others may not have, but they’ll now be delighted that Lallana has confirmed the new haircut on his Instagram.

You can tell it’s a big deal when he goes to the bother of making and posting a video like this:

Liverpool fans will be hoping that the new hair can bring about a new Lallana as he looks to regain his best form and a regular place in Jurgen Klopp’s team.

They go up against West Ham in the English Premier League tomorrow, hoping to win and continue applying pressure to Manchester United in second.

Leigh Griffiths has shown his support for his Celtic teammates after their Europa League exit at the hands of Zenit.

The Hoops striker was back in Scotland watching on last night’s game as he recovers from a calf injury.

No doubt he would have been disappointed to see them fail to build on their 1-0 first leg win, going down 3-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate in their last-32 tie.

But Griffiths has offered some solidarity on Instagram by sharing a picture of the squad celebrating their Betfred Cup win earlier in the season alongside the caption: “My guys”

My guys 🙌🏻💚

A post shared by leighg09 (@leighgriffiths9) on

That’s the sort of solidarity that Hoops fans will be delighted to see in the wake of a disappointing result.

Despite only just exiting Europe and still being in every domestic competition, Rodgers’ men haven’t been exempt from criticism this season.

They’ve struggled to find their best form of late and the manner of last night’s defeat to Zenit has attracted more criticism.

But Celtic still have a potential treble on the cards and positivity among the players and the support should help them in going for their targets.

Roy Keane doesn’t buy the excuse that Scottish football hinders Celtic when it comes to playing in Europe.

The Manchester United legend – who had a short spell in Scottish football with the Hoops towards the end of his career – wouldn’t have enjoyed watching Brendan Rodgers’ men as they lost 3-0 to Zenit in Russia.

Celtic went into the game with a 1-0 lead from the first leg at Celtic Park – Callum McGregor scoring the only goal of a game that the hosts dominated.

Embed from Getty Images

But it was a very different encounter last night, with Roberto Mancini’s men constantly in control of the game before deservedly sealing their 3-1 aggregate win.

Keane was asked if the quality of Scottish football makes it more difficult for Celtic to compete in Europe while on ITV’s Europa League Highlights Show last night.

And while accepting it probably doesn’t help, he brought up last week’s win and asked why the team couldn’t play like that again:

Of course, Keane is a good pundit to ask about Celtic considering he very nearly became the Hoops manager before Ronny Deila was given the job in 2014.

The Irish great knocked it back and decided to stay on as his country’s assistant manager, but maybe it’s something for the future?

Following Celtic’s elimination from the Europa League, Dorus de Vries has told STV reporter Raman Bhardwaj that the swerve on the ball for Zenit’s second goal was a “goalkeeper’s nightmare”.

Brendan Rodgers side lost 3-0 at the Krestovsky Stadium, in what proved to be a horror showing for the Scottish champions.

And while it’s difficult to see any of the Celtic players receiving pass marks for their performances, de Vries in particular was singled out for criticism at half-time by the Hoops faithful.

However, after the final whistle, de Vries looked to respond to his critics by speaking to Bhardwaj about Daler Kuzyayev’s strike in the 27th minute:

Here’s Kuzyayev’s goal again, in case you missed it:

Was de Vries really to blame for Celtic falling 2-0 behind before the interval?

Or was the team’s performance as a whole a lot more worrying, especially with Aberdeen hosting the champions in the Scottish Premiership this weekend?
