Jamie Carragher has revealed he would love to see Everton youngster Ross Barkley score in Sunday’s Merseyside derby.
The Liverpool legend was giving his verdict on Roberto Martinez’s side in a Sky Sports preview ahead of the clash at Goodison this weekend.
And former Reds defender insists he enjoys watching young talent come through the ranks – regardless of what side of the divide they are on.
Carragher said: “I love to see local players playing, especially for my own club at Liverpool.
“But I loved seeing Wayne Rooney come through at Everton and Ross Barkley now, I love watching that lad play.
“He’s a brilliant player. When I watch him, even though Everton are a rival of Liverpool’s.
“Even in this derby game, I hope Liverpool win obviously, but I hope Ross Barkley plays well, maybe gets a goal.
“I love seeing players from my own city doing well whether it’s for Liverpool or Everton and I’m as delighted as Evertonian when I see a local player coming through for them as well.”
The ex-Anfield star also insisted that he feels the Toffees are going into Sunday’s match as favourites for the first time in a number of years.
