Jamie Carragher Doesn’t Think Jose Mourinho Would Fix Man Utd’s Problems

Jamie Carragher Doesn’t Think Jose Mourinho Would Fix Man Utd’s Problems

With all of the rumours swirling about at the moment, Jose Mourinho and Manchester United looks like a collision that is bound to happen sooner or later.

The Portuguese was sacked by Chelsea last week, and with Louis van Gaal’s United side currently going through a six-match run without a win, Mourinho is thought to be the logical candidate to replace the Dutchman should the Old Trafford hierarchy look to make a mid-season change.

Speaking in his role as a pundit for Sky Sports, Carragher was asked on Monday Night Football whether the two-time Champions League winner would be a good for United, and he responded:

“Is Jose [Mourinho] the perfect fit for Man United? I’d say no.

“The reason being; if I think of Man United in the past 50 or 60 years of what they’re about, winning trophies, Jose massively ticks that box. But bring through young players? No.

“Playing exciting football, cultured football, going for every game? He doesn’t tick that box either.

“So if that’s someone that they go for, I think it will show the fear the Man United board have, maybe even some of the supporters who are chanting for him, of other teams getting away from them.

“Also the fact Pep Guardiola may be going to Man City, they’re thinking, ‘we’re actually falling behind.’ So they’re actually going to forget some of the principles that made the club what they are for the last 50-60 years and they’re that desperate to get back to winning trophies.

“So they’re actually going to forget some of the principles that made the club what they are for the last 50-60 years and they’re that desperate to get back to winning trophies.”

United sat three points behind their noisy neighbours ahead of City’s clash with Arsenal tonight, and despite the relatively close gap, the manner of Old Trafford performances has shown a lack of ambition which United fans are unhappy about.
